Minnesota’s budget crisis is cutting deep, especially in the health and human services. With budget negotiations pending, People Incorporated Mental Health Services needed to create an Annual Report that spoke directly to the urgency of the issue, not just for People Incorporated programs, but for the community as a whole. Our solution posed the statement, “Look at it this way,” asking the reader to take a deeper look at the critical role local mental health services play in providing quality—and affordable—mental health care. The outer white booklet showcases the voices and stories of clients, staff, board, and community members, and highlights the comparative costs of People Incorporated services versus hospitals and emergency rooms. The larger orange book contains the usual annual report content such as CEO letter, donor lists, and other highlights. The bright orange color, bold headlines, and quick, direct style demands attention. By keeping the color scheme to two colors and working with the printer to devise a self-mailing piece, we were able to control costs while delivering a report that helps People Incorporated stand out from the crowd.
